Sustainability isn’t just a trend, it’s an important movement if we still want to enjoy travel in 50 years. Let’s be honest, hotels today are far from sustainable – think of all the electricity, cleaning supplies and water weuse.
Things need to change and we’re excited to announce our partnership with Cleanhub as the first step in our journey. No surprise, sustainability is hard. We spent a lot of time thinking about what we can do, from talking to institutions to understand our emissions to learning about microplastic particles.
Our solution is to start with plastics. Every year, 14 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean and makes up 80% of pollutants in the water. The necessity of masks during COVID pandemic has made this worse, the world is throwing away 3 million face masks every MINUTE. If we don’t do our part, we’re looking at an environmental disaster.
Cleanhub is an organization which focuses on collecting plastic waste before it reaches the ocean and harms our ecosystem. With the help of Cleanhub, we made a commitment to collect 200kg of plastics for every 4,000 stays in order to completely offset the water bottles travelers use.
